hondanhon ShortFormErnie tinysubversions edent Indeed! I.... really hope we're past that point, but I suspect you are right that might still be a concern for some people. But I don't think it is a good justification for a service the intent of which is that your account is portable and can move from instance to instance.

hondanhon ShortFormErnie tinysubversions edent I think broader uses for rel=me are interesting! Generally we should likely lean into domains as arbiter of ids b/c it encourages lots of other good behaviors, but I know we're a long way from there. If you're not already familiar, this is a good ex that: indieauth.com/

hondanhon ShortFormErnie tinysubversions edent And that example sort of ties in with some interesting ways I think from a technical perspective the rel=me verification might get better. I agree it def could be better from a UI perspective too.

hondanhon ShortFormErnie tinysubversions edent I just, at core, generally think processes to further isolate journalists from their constituency--outside of specific safety concerns--are bad for journalism broadly & should be avoided and I suspect isolating them in a pub-based instance would do that, also, doesn't seem fun.

hondanhon ShortFormErnie tinysubversions edent (With the exception of a version of the approach that brings in members of the community of interest, and isn't just isolating the instance to employees of the pub, in which case it is useless for verification.)
