                    1. Surveillance is not the only business model. Pushing all your users' data to 3rd parties is not "innovation". mattyglesias/1523615554963001345

It might surprise you to find this out, but many--if not the majority--of app store apps are actually shitty arbitrage schemes for user data barely covered up by a mediocre set of badly designed functions and UI. If they stopped being profitable... that would be a societal good!

Hacking together an app to flip your users to data brokers isn't innovation! It's just bs! Who gives a crap about the "poor" app makers who have no alternative use case if a user rejects tracking? If your app has no way forward w/out active user consent, it isn't innovating shit.

All apps can go to hell, end the app, 90% of them are terrible and useless and another 5% are just websites with a wrapper around them. The app ecosystem is extremely dumb and should be heavily curtailed.

Oops I quoted the same tweet twice. Here's the other tweet I meant to quote tweet about how apps are terrible and we should end them all. Chronotope/1288225655776215041

If it wasn't for the fact that the app ecosystem encourages companies to not invest in their web interface, because it is easier to track users using an app, I would not have a single app on my phone. If it wasn't for apps what a richer web we'd have.
