I have lately been working with some people who prefer spaces and I am not criticizing them personally, because structural conditions in engineering culture enforce spaces as a standard tied to an identity of expertise and I don't feel the need to be harsh on people who conform.
-
But spaces are bullshit tied to bad logic and performant (not realistic) expertise. They are an artifact of no longer pertinent tools that persists because signaling affiliations with those tools is a practice of identity, not skill or application.
-
Worse than that, they are a tool of exclusion and boundry setting. A way to gatekeep against people for whom variable personal spacing is actually important for physical unalterable reasons. They are bad culture.
-
You build what you build and I won't be a dick about spaces vs tabs, you have the community you have. But know that when you use spaces, your missing out on people and practice that could change things for the better.

I have irritated people in the past, but this will likely be perceived as my Worst Take and that really says it all.
