ericyoung_1 jbenton dancow We don't operate in a vacuum, but that doesn't mean that ever platform is worth investing in. We should invest in more than just Google and Facebook. *Of course that's the case*. But that doesn't mean a platform that isn't duopoly is viable for no reason other than that.

ericyoung_1 jbenton dancow These platforms are our partners in editorial ethics & business strategy. They need to be measured and held up against standards. If they fail to stand up, then the opportunity cost may be more than the value returned, because impacting those ethics or strategy can remove value

ericyoung_1 jbenton dancow Apple News doesn't fail to, but that doesn't mean *others* automatically don't fail at meeting our requirements as publishers. Adoption of a platform should never be a knee-jerk call simply because it isn't Google or Facebook.

ericyoung_1 jbenton dancow Arguably thinking that way about Google and jumping into Facebook with no real thought is EXACTLY what has exacerbated the problem.

ericyoung_1 jbenton dancow Our value as publishers derives from more than just the count of eyeballs and as a result the ways we measure the performance of platforms needs to include more than just 'do they convert'.
