        anildash robpegoraro sdkstl awfulannouncing Then imagine that no server provider had an incentive to fix it (because they were all awful) and their stance was supported by millions of dollars worth of hardware industry companies and industry groups. That's a more realistic comparison to what programmatic is right now.

      anildash robpegoraro sdkstl awfulannouncing At a really base level, the problem is that the entire ad tech industry is incentivized towards fraud and motivated to make it hard to track and solve. From individual black hats all the way to Google. AdContrarian wrote about this effectively.

      anildash robpegoraro sdkstl awfulannouncing AdContrarian But at the end of the day, it *is* the publisher's responsibility to protect their readers. So we're trying to do so, aggressively. But that graphic is just a fraction of the thousands of bad actors in play.
