        I don't know detailed biz models for each, but I feel like problem is central control. Run local news like franchises and it might work?

      Like... the problem isn't intrinsically local news won't scale, at least no more or less than any other news (which is to say it won't)...

    But that doesn't mean that local news can't have a wider business model attached that doesn't work profitability off scaled traffic.

      I think the problem being identified here is expecting networks of local news orgs to operate and profit like national news, which... sure

        But I mean... there are benefits of networks/technology from which local news can find labor and cost savings as well as profit.

          I think there's a general problem in confusing 'business strategies on the web' with 'strategies of scale' that is pretty prevalent.
