                      1. I want to say that the future of news tech will be micro services b/c I want that, but lets be honest, it won't be.

Newsrooms mostly don't have the expertise to maintain a single system, you really think they're going to maintain dozens?

Nah, newsrooms might be driven by microservices, but they'll all be services by the same provider, so *shrugz*

I always hope that newsrooms are going to be vaunted innovators, but in reality it is mostly following fads developed by leading news orgs.

Which is why leading news orgs will end up being service providers & the followers will end up either dependent, open source, or out of biz

Vox is basically proof: if you staff new media cos w/traditional leaders you're just recreating old media companies w/smaller bank accounts.

The New Media Startup Revolution was killed in its crib because the investors and management are all old people with old media ideas.

Honestly, with the exception of BuzzFeed, I doubt a single one of that generation of news startups is going to stand the test of time.

Which is sad, b/c smart people work there and have smart ideas. But there's no defeating institutional incompetence without a serious jolt

Which is why WaPo is doing well. They were basically two legs and an arm in the grave and got bailed out, like organizational electroshock.

New media orgs don't have the bank to make it to that turning point. They just have bad VC with bad KPIs and bad expectations.

Best case, someone will buy them for their talent. Disruption: what a scam. Chronotope/813775440590635008

(PS: When I say old people, I don't mean age per-se, I mean people who act like news industry is still in the 1970s, you can be 20 and that)

(Go to some journalism masters programs and you will indeed find people in their 20s who don't realize the internet is a thing that matters)
