MattSaccaro I have a lot to say on this, but basically boils down to people feeling safe & connected to friends on FB & neither on Twitter.
-
MattSaccaro It's super obvious FB gets it in their marketing. It's all people live streaming everyday things to their friends and family
-
MattSaccaro But Twitter knows that route is fked by the community so it's all weird finance stuff and people jumping at electronic concerts
-
MattSaccaro Best example: everyone first tuned into FB to watch people do a fun thing w/friends who happened to be in the BuzzFeed office.
-
MattSaccaro Twitter's Big Event was really congresspeople sitting on the floor. Totally different audiences.
-
MattSaccaro And the scale of streaming users Twitter can achieve in that situation is minuscule compared to what it needs or FB will get
-
MattSaccaro Whole model is dependent on random users making free content to monetize. FB gets them. Twitter won't, b/c it is an ugly place.
-
MattSaccaro At least on a subconscious level users understand that Facebook connects them to friends and Twitter makes them targets.
-
MattSaccaro This is also why Twitter sees no big celeb uses of streaming yet. No one wants to put something up w/no moderation tools
-
MattSaccaro While moderation tools exist on *literally* every other platform. W/o them Twitter never will win at user-created live video.
-
MattSaccaro There isn't even a ton of Twitter-hosted not-live video for exactly this reason.
-
MattSaccaro I love Twitter but it is filled with shitty people & no tools to control their impact and that will eventually sink the company
