The most amusing thing about the No Man's Sky hype blowback is that we'll all be caught by surprise when it happens again with Star Citizen.
-
I'm enjoying No Man's Sky, but it is also reminding me just how freaking good a game Freelancer was and how--*still*--no one has come close.
-
It's sort of alarming how Freelancer came out in *2003* and no space combat/exploration/trade game has come even close, other than EVE.
-
It's easy to forget now, but that game didn't need a billion star systems to feel massive, it had 48 systems and a really good story.
-
Every spaceship combat/exploration/trade game that comes out, fans are waiting for it to match Freelancer, but they haven't.
-
And as it stands now, Star Citizen pretty much seems to be putting it's eggs in any basket but story, assuming it ever comes out.
-
And if it is another aimless open universe with rinse-and-repeat tasks scattered over it, fans are going to be very disappointed again.
-
It's about the story. IT'S ABOUT THE STORY. Space is vast and no one is going to give a crap about it if you don't have a real narrative.
-
I love wondering aimlessly in games, but that's not a many people. Not a AAA audience. I sit and wait for a better game than Freelancer.
