I can't get WordPress.com posts to oEmbed in WordPress.com or self-hosted sites.

Can't get self-hosted sites to oEmbed in WordPress.com. Can't get .com posts to embed in self-hosted. What the hell am I missing?

Do I need to add theme support or something? What's the trick to making this work? It looked like it would Just Work.

I can see oEmbed LINKS in my HEAD, but they go to failed JSON pages.

And the docs for the whole oEmbed process is slim. Especially because function names seem to confuse getting external and internal data.
