                                1. This is quite a thing for Post News to claim when right now the only premium news provider I've found is Reuters, who is republishing wire stories you can read for free on their website for money while WSJ has uhhh this. profgalloway/1596265219797520387

Also... I don't know who Simon C Holland is, but if he is on Post... uhhhh I don't know how to find him.

It sure seems like investor-in-Post SG here is uhmmmm.... Full of Shit. Not a great sign for Post.

I paid 5 "pts" for that 2 paragraph Reuters story that was available for free on their website by the way.

I know that it isn't uncommon for tech startups like this (and hey, Medium) to basically bullshit like this in order to formulate up pressure on media companies to syndicate to them. But. Yeah, not great.

I feel like if you were on the verge of signing syndication deals with WSJ and other publishers maybe you wouldn't be creating profiles of them on your platform to "help us convince them to join".

And Post does not appear to have any capacity to provide a key for paywalls outside of those established on its own, so you won't be reading content on the sites of those publishers, they will *have* to syndicate full content articles to this platform.

Having worked on these types of contracts, I have a hunch most publishers will have a problem w/this part of Post's ToS. Publishers who syndicate do not particularly like to give content to platforms that claim ability to sub-license, modify, & make derivatives of that content.

Of course it isn't unusual for such platforms to make separate contracts with publishers, but hey, just a warning for anyone who isn't a major publisher and considering putting their content up on here that these aren't the most friendly of terms.

Anyway... considering SG's show on CNN+ I'm not sure I'd consider him a great predictor of the lasting power of any platform.

I also think it's hilarious that of the fake profiles for publications Post put up... it's basically just East Coast politics and tech pubs? No entertainment publications, no LA Times that I could find, no culture pubs or digital-first folks like Vox, Giz, etc... No NPR either.

An interesting little window into the mind and reading habits of the founders that there's a "get them to join" account for Financial Times but not Variety, Deadline or even like... ESPN.

I doubt any of these publications would actually care enough to do something about it but jacking their trademarks to create these profiles is prob not a great sign towards how Post is going to treat IP rights :/

I am deeply uncomfortable with how Post is apparently replicating the model we've seen backfire at places like Theranos but is the general rule for SV startups where they 'fake it until you make it'. More concerns here: Chronotope/1596214193510027265

Yeah... I'm really starting to get Medium vibes from Post. Chronotope/994939666477584385
