Why are people putting their Mastodon identities in their names instead of other places a profile provides on Twitter? I know this is annoying as a practice, but it allows the systems that are in use for helping people move their following over to easily pick it up & follow you.

I know it seems like a good idea to put a link to your Mastodon profile in your description instead, but it turns out Twitter shortens those links in the API making it very difficult for automated tools to know if they should be followed or not.

It's annoying that Mastodon Profile In Twitter Name is the only foolproof method to expose your move to automated tooling that helps people get set up on their new Mastodon accounts, but it seems to really be the only option. The @name@server pattern is unmistakable.
