    dansinker knowtheory pilhofer blaine If you try and avoid the federated forum-ish style of use, and rob yourself of the features of being part of a community instance, I think you're going to end up fighting against the system in a way that will make your experience less pleasant.

        dansinker knowtheory pilhofer blaine Notably: the architecture of ActivityPub makes it so that it is just as expensive to run a self-hosted server as one single popular person as it is to run a fairly well populated server of many people with varying degrees of popularity.
