According to this conservative estimate NYC has 88,830 empty *rent stabilized units*. According to federal stats in 2020, all of NY *state*'s homeless population is 91, 271. *Just* the empty stabilized units in NYC could house >97% of the *state's* homeless. katewillett/1583187363907280896

There's literally no reason for anyone to be homeless. Adams is going to build a fking tent city, but we already have enough room for everyone who is homeless in the city to have somewhere to live with a roof and a bed.

The city should seize any unit held off the market for more than 6 months without active construction and they should require price drops every week from any unit that is on the market but remains there for more than a year.

This is my problem with the "build more" crowd. That's not going to fix anything for as long as it's profitable for landlords to sit on and over price units. Supply can't fix the market by itself without regulation. Gotta do both!
