I can't believe most major apps in which we buy digital goods have broken their purchasing process to force you out of the app & onto the web to avoid the platform tax & we've just sorta accepted this huge hit to ease-of-use and no one seems to be complaining or talking about it

The supposed safety and ease-of-use of in-app payment was one of the main selling points used to get people to abandon the open web and now it's... just gone and... no real reaction has occurred? This definetly says something massive about users but dammed if I know what.

Some possibilities: users now perceive apps as less safe than the open web; enough users understand the platform tax and agree with attempts to resist it; users perception of digital goods and their value has shifted; users feel too helpless to bother complaining; I dunno?!?

Someone please do a poll on this or something?
