        1. Really interesting session at ECCC which looks at how Seattle is presented in the Green Arrow comics (which is where the character often lives) and how it tries and oft falls short in its attempt to sympathetically portray Native Americans, the homeless and parts of history.

        It's a really really interesting session, especially because Green Arrow is commonly portrayed as the most liberal character in the DC Universe and this gave writers the space to try and tell specifically politically left stories. But of course, they did not always succeed.

      Well-meaning does not always mean effective, or correct in their portrayals. It's very interesting to see members of these communities respond directly to where they see these stories fail or succeed in writers' attempts to portray them sympathetically or be sympathetic to them.

    A good lesson here in how activism that doesn't include those it's trying to help will always fall short, no matter how well meaning.
