Blizzard has made it look easy, here, to hone in on the most addictive, predatory aspects of Diablo’s design." polygon.com/23152323/diablo-immortal-mobile-free-to-play-microtransactions-addictive

I have to say that this has been the experience for me as well. The introduction of microtransactions doesn't just ruin the games they're in but it makes me rethink all the hack and slash and looter shooters I've played and set them in a different, more negative, light...

It made me really sad when I realized that playing D3 on launch and seeing these mechanics turned and tuned towards real money auctions broke the entire series for me, I can't go back to the previous entries of Diablo and feel the same, the mechanics eat away at my enjoyment...

It's the same w/other games too, new and old, microtransactions have irrevocably altered how I perceive & feel about these games. Capitalism comes for art. By commodifying play, it injures it. This is why Play to Earn will never work. The connection to real money breaks the fun.

Same reason I dropped Magic the Gathering. Once a game becomes part of the precarious math of surviving capitalism it isn't really a game any more, it's just one more point of precariousness that weighs on you every day as you fall asleep. That's not a game and it isn't fun.

I'm so tired and whole genres of gaming I used to enjoy being destroyed by libertarian market-making just exhausts me more.

This is the war for your mind, because it would be easy to give up critical facilities and your wallet and let it wash over you, but think about it even a little and you have to realize how unacceptable this all is.
