This is such a great quote because it's a perfect encapsulation of a big hole in crypto currency. They have successfully identified a problem, but lack any self-examination or external connections--or simply are too caught up in fantasy, to see they are deep into wrong solutions.

The thing blocking the vast majority of people's creativity is actually the threat of losing their housing, healthcare, or ability to access food if they take literally any time to be creative. That's not solvable with a crypto currency marketplace for VR fursuits.

That's where I disagree with this part of Kevin's thread. Crypto currency's critics are mostly taking it plenty seriously but, because those critiques are often rooted in anti-capitalism, the media often doesn't take critics seriously kevinroose/1505586887490080769?t=lgX_0Xsm_iB0hHm_TZNp5Q&s=19

It's not far I assume it won't work. It's that I assume our planet can't survive for long if it does.

Like... Every crypto critic I've ever read it watched or talked to agree asking all of those questions and answering with clarity that the results will be incredibly dangerous. While many look at what "web3" is creating as incredibly shallow and dumb, they think it could "go big"

But their criticism is based in coming to terms with capitalism burning the world down around us, realizing that it cannot solve the problems it creates, and trying to explain that error in understanding as writ into "web3"...

But MSM outlets are not particularly interested in mainstreaming critiques of crypto currency based in capitalist critique, even tho *it's a financial system & that's the only way to seriously critique it*. And so the critiques they take seriously are not particularly substantial

I'm not sure how you can see the most common critiques of cryptocurrency, that it's a dangerous ponzi scheme, that its financialization of everything threatens our ability to function as humans, that it is unnecessarily burning down the world, as unserious?

This is so irritating. I was going to wait until my new site was functional b/c it is still a WiP, but the topic page ~works. So here's a list of serious sources (including positive ones) on Crypto Currency projects. Just uhh, don't click to another page context.center/topics/cryptocurrency/
