npparikh I feel talking about surveillance in the frame of it being the inevitable outcome of capitalism would be a stronger argument that would get *more* attention? I think it is just she believes capitalism is good and surveillance is bad and is twisting herself around to make it work.

npparikh The irony, since she readily critiques neoliberalism, is that she has fallen into a specifically neoliberal trap: "I think capitalism is good and has benefited the people around me & I'm a good person so if this thing is bad and I'm good, then it can't be b/c of capitalism."

npparikh It would take another whole thread or maybe book to dig into this, but this flaw comes out strongly in her comparisons between Google's treatment of users and The British Empire's treatment of both Africa and Native Americans, which she attributes to this "abnormal" capitalism.
