Decided I want to replay KOTOR and damn you know what is amazing... being able to save anywhere at any time. You remember that? What ever happened to being able to save everywhere in a game?
-
I took a break to play some Bioshock Infinite (which I hadn't finished on first play-through, but repurchased for Switch) and wow is it a big change, the BI save system is unclear, I do not know when checkpoints trigger or how far back a quit might throw me. Very annoying.

I really dislike how unclear save limitations have become so common in modern games and how they end up pushing me into playing until I hit the clearest possible checkpoint instead of being able to easily pick it up and put it down at will...

I'm pretty sure this is what happened the first time I took a run at Bioshock Infinite, I got screwed by a bad early checkpoint and didn't want to play again without a large enough chunk of time that never came.

Especially games that don't have save on quit feel like a push towards some sort of more addictive lock in mechanics. Gross.

BTW, I recommend this excellent video essay which made me want to pick up KotOR again. youtu.be/OI2iOB8ydGo
