This is a cartel. This is market manipulation. This has trickle down effects on aid that other universities give to other students. If this is fully proven out then the government should fine the everloving shit out of all of these universities. nbcnews.com/news/us-news/16-ivy-league-elite-universities-sued-alleged-financial-aid-conspiracy-rcna11643

If you play out the consequences, considering that most universities consider elite universities' financial aid offerings while constructing their own packages, the impact of this type of behavior could be across the entire higher education system.

It's not just elite universities robbing their own students if all this is true. Allegation would mean that they're essentially conspiring to put a cap on student aid across all of higher ed. It isn't just forcing their students to go deeper into debt. It's forcing every student.

The allegation is specifically about how they calculate how much aid people who they know need student aid should get. So it isn't just incidental cost either, it's a direct impact to students who are specifically in need...

It's just one more nail in the concept of meritocracy. You thought that if you were smart enough the market might make it so that you could avoid severe debt? Sorry. That's not what is happening. Big universities would rather continue to make more money at an accelerating rate.
