                          1. A sure sign of a movie with ego - it rolls the title credits over 11 minutes in. :/

Ok so I watched Don't Look Up and there are a lot of smart takes with smart good and bad feedback, etc... but I have to say the biggest issue for me was that the whole thing just felt both self satisfied and in tremendous bad taste.

I don't think I've ever watched a film that felt more... gross... for lack of a better term and I've watched more than one Saw film. How do you tell someone who thinks they're the hero of their own film that they're actually the villain?

It would be mitigated somewhat if I thought it actually was effective messaging but like... is it? Did you get a call to action out of that film? Did you figure out a why to move forward on climate change? Did you get an idea of someone specific to call upon or take to task?

Like... they don't even have a URL at the end for you to go to some sort of fund-raising site or charity... ? I think I've seen action movies that deal with self-harm at least put the Suicide Hotline in the end credits? The least they could do is I dunno recommend *something*.

The film ended and then Netflix went 'ok, ready to watch The Witcher?' so... they couldn't even follow it up with a recommendation to watch a documentary or something factual or even just autoplay An Inconvenient Truth or something?

I love how the film implicitly criticizes Millennial capitalist-activism but also... is Boomer capitalist-activism. Though honestly like... I think it might be a stretch to even call it activism. Once again: there doesn't appear to even be a vague gesturing at a call to action?

I guess if there was any message to take away it would be... uhhh... don't trust the Ultra Rich or Tr*mp and listen to scientists but... even that was surprisingly vague...

Since in the film there are clearly Good Scientists and Bad Scientists and the Tr*mp-esque president gets her humorous threat-deflating comeuppance...

I guess the biggest criticism I had of Don't Look Up really is that it's supposed to be a comedy but it just made me sad. Not like... emotional along with the characters sad... just sad. Sad and tired. Would not recommend.

About 1/3rd in the scientists are trying to explain to basically GMA hosts that bad shit is happening & a host goes 'we try to make the news lighthearted' and the film paints the anchor as in the wrong... but that's *exactly* what the film is doing and... uhhh I don't understand.

Did they donate the profits of the film? Or pay for carbon credits (even though those are BS) to cover the cost of the production? If I was ever going to call something clicktivism it would be this film.

I am just depressed that this is what counts as Big Hollywood Activism in these times.
