        1. I just can't sympathize with game companies "not making enough" to afford AAA games while also paying their executives many millions of dollars in regular salary and bonuses. Also... if you can't make & sell a game ethically, at the end of the day it isn't worth making. ZenOfDesign/1470456426321616908

Literally every one of the truly good games I played this year were not maxing out graphics cards or at the cutting edge of technology. At end of the day... I'm sure that there is a big squeeze possible to 5x game costs with various live services, but that doesn't make it right.

Like I dunno man... if it takes so much to make a game that it should cost more than $60 and your two rising generations of gamers are more in-debt, overworked, and poorer then ever, than you prob missed something in your calculations of what to make as a game...

And milking their wallets with predatory gambling mechanics (which are not *at all* like DLCs) or trying to push them into ultracapitalism with NFTs, while it might work, is a great proof of the fact that just because something makes money doesn't mean you should do it.

You know what I played this year? Shadowrun games, Darkest Dungeon, Five Houses, Pokemon Shield, Humankind, Crying Suns, Halcyon 6, Wildermyth. My to-play list of games from this year? Inscryption, Sable, Boyfriend Dungeon, Pokemon Perl. Also I picked up Riders Republic on sale.

I played others, but those were the ones I spent the most time in. I just have so little interest in games that are constantly trying to sell me digital stuff and pretty much every AAA game is constantly trying to do that in a way that breaks the immersion I want from games.

TBH I only picked up Riders Republic because I love snowboarding games and I have friends who want to play it with me. But it's constant pitch of stuff to spend real money on is already obnoxious and I've been playing <10hrs.

I also played a ton of Eve Echoes this year, which I actually did end up spending a bunch of money on for monthly sub, but I was honestly more willing to spend money on it because it's pitch was significantly lower key, but even then it was frustrating.

Anyway, I don't have a PS5 and I'm spending time trying to make friends with one of a reddit crew that are grabbing graphics cards before they hit shelves and reselling them at markup to try and get a graphics card to build a new computer.

This has gone off on a real tangent but uhhh play Wildermyth instead of any AAA game is what I guess I'm saying. Don't give in on this 'games must be >$60 BS because they must be cutting edge and 5x budgets' bullshit. Down with the endless parade of abusive greedy games execs.

Oh, also play Griftlands. Forgot about that b/c I just picked it up, but I'm enjoying the heck out of that already.

I'm sorry but there are just more important things that More Halo with Better Reflective Surfaces. Bring back Halo Wars instead. That game was underrated and didn't require you to have Cutting Edge Graphics and was more fun than the last two Halo games.
