    swodinsky I def think it is that, but I think it is more that you are presenting to people the idea that one of the fundamental underpinnings of how our country and society work are so incredibly broken that it makes these things inevitable and fixing it would require a huge shift.

      swodinsky Also... if you've been a tech reporter a long time CEO Bad is the sort of narrative that allows you to not face up to your own complicity in the narrative of "Startups saving the world" that allowed these sort of things to get so much more worse...

        swodinsky I swodinsky you benefit in this regard in your relative new-ness to the field. People who have been writing hagiographies of tech companies since 1990 are not going to have an easy time realizing that they have some fault in this process also...

          swodinsky The core problem tho is no one wants to realize the problem is, and always has been, the enactment of capitalism in our society, especially since the 80s, &is therefore something we are basically all complicit in & need to vastly realign our lenses for interacting w/the world...

            swodinsky As someone who personally went through this process (including a period of time where I was personally leaning libertarian on economics) I can attest it is not an easy transformation to one's thinking & is MUCH harder for folks who gain more privilege from the existing system...

              swodinsky Also... coming to terms with the fact that American Capitalism is fundamentally broken requires one to do the work of reading and research and people hate doing that. Even some reporters.
