This is bad reporting, I'm sorry. Treating these scams like they're new is giving undeserved credibility to them. Second Life did all this before and it didn't work then and if you're reporting this ultra capitalist echo without context, it's a disservice. vox.com/recode/2021/12/2/22812608/metaverse-real-estate-meta

At least Second Life built a community and user base *before* they started selling off tracts of virtual land! As is typical for crypto currency folks they're building the solution before they've figured out the problem.
-
Another thing this article does not note is how many (if any) daily active users the subject "metaverse" or *any* of the multiple competing metaverse companies have. It seems to me that would be very important to include.
-
Also, calling it "the spirit of web1.0" is hands down silly when presumably these separate metaverse concepts aren't interoperable? If they were, why would "real estate" be valuable when you can host your own? Though I don't know of course, because that's not in article either.

Don't be a tech journalist like it's 1990 or 2010. Treat these companies like you should treat all startups, empty headed hype men who have to prove themselves to you to even be worthy of coverage. Be a reporter.

Also like... People still build websites! This is still a thing! Why are the people in this article acting like building websites is some dead undiscovered art they need to recover via metaverses.
