              1. Let me tell you: seeing bad CGI shit we made in the 90s return as million dollar NFTs people mount in what appears to be a Second Life house that's been cut off from the rest of the game and given a roof from a mediocre 90s game I played off a PC Gamer CD; is some wild shit.

Shoulda saved my old 3ds Max practice renders from when I thought I was going to go into gamedev and resold them now for Big Money.

One of my personally proudest moments was working on a render that ended up in a Homeworld mod and it was incredibly satisfying to actually touch even a piece of that process but let me tell you I never thought that just the model would have made me rich.

Every person I ever worked with or hung with on Deviant Art back in the day has to be *enormously* frustrated with the quality of work that is making Big Money on NFTs right now.

I know the obnoxious stereotype is tech people having no taste or appreciation for fine art but I guess it's not an entirely untrue stereotype.

It's just so boring to me because all this stuff, right down to the virtual showrooms filled with bad art, is stuff I've seen before, except before it wasn't burning the atmosphere off the planet and a huge speculative market with big money and *that was better* IMO.

I dunno how pairing anything with Ultra Capitalism makes it more fun? It doesn't seem more fun to me. If I want to play in crazy artificial markets I have... ya know... video games that don't use up an enormous amount of energy.

If you were not the sort of nerd who played around in Second Life let me put it to you this way: me looking at NFTs now is like if you saw your friends' Lisa Frank folders that they all drew the Cool S on in high school suddenly were a "new" art form that was selling for millions

Is there like some weird irony I'm not getting from deep in the community there that makes the shittiness the point? Is the shittiness the point? It doesn't look interesting or cool to make a 90s CGI model and cover it in chrome... it just looks tired to me. Do they not realize?
