aripap Over the last 5 years Microsoft has vastly improved its programming tools. VS Code is obviously great & Windows 10 has a much better terminal now with SSH. Windows has a ton more free stuff and, of course, a better gaming library. It is much improved for programming from earlier

aripap For robotics, depending on the chipset there may actually be less hoops to jump through to connect. OSX system security can make it a pain for even basic connections without work.

aripap If he's commonly working with a single board or chip you should check the walk-throughs for any compatability issues, or any necessary software, but most stuff works on both platforms as long as he's not building iOS applications.

aripap So many people are building cross OS applications using Node. And Docker is so slick it's much easier to set up virtual machines to work in. These days I'm not sure there's much of a reason to use one or the other besides iOS app building. & there's always duel booting to Linux!

aripap I think Microsoft used to offer VMs with a timer on them for free use with VMware or Parallels. I think they still do. He could likely check all his tooling will still work in advance.

aripap But yeah if I was buying a new laptop I might go with Windows these days if it wasn't for having to hop into XCode occasionally. Most of the stuff from the OS wars days are not problems anymore. Heck, the latest models are supposedly good, but the late 2010s were full of bad Macs
