I noticed recently that the Inception Horns have (thankfully) mostly disappeared from movie trailers, but lately I've been seeing a new trend. I think it comes from the increasing use of pop songs in films, interest in doing so cheaply, "epic" sounding trailers & Billie Eilish...

So now hearing a lot of breathy slow singers that build, go loud, drop the beat, then build back up and are backed by cinematic sounding orchestration. Usually they're either covering pop songs or it sounds pop-ish. So, basically "Epic Pop": open.spotify.com/playlist/1COGjJgDOrjfwc6QmgpFUd?si=1c955e2dc6704ca9

It's very interesting that this is basically an entire genre of music, with clear shared characteristics, that exists mostly for artists to generate covers in the hope they get picked up and licenced for trailers.

I think the really interesting thing that has occurred is how this has leaked back into the music-making world. It isn't just slowed down pop covers (though there are plenty of people making those) but people making all-new music in this specific style, which is wild.
