mathewi All the more reason CNN should have prepped Gupta with everything they ever said about Rog*n so he could have formed an answer for that and why it was irrelevant ... or a more focused message that dismissed that as a possible discussion point to begin with....

mathewi This is a secret weapon of Rog*n's podcast... because it is so long and unfocused it defeats traditional media flak prep for people like Gupta, they needed to send him in with an entirely different set of tools than the ones he is used to leaning on. You can't talk in soundbites
            1. …in reply to @Chronotope
mathewi But he screwed it up... so instead of getting the headlines he wanted out of it, he got these, and lent Rog*n credibility while decreasing his own credibility and hurting that of CNN's:

mathewi Long rambling conversation podcasts are popular because they defeat most of the defenses that media personalities build up in the public eye. It also gives the host immense power to batter the subject over and over &, b/c it is spread out, the host doesn't look like an ass.

mathewi The right answer, the one he *should* have prepped before hand, is to say:

mathewi "It's irrelevant what you personally take Rog*n, and if we got that detail wrong, that's something we should correct, but it doesn't negate the fact that however you *personally* got the drug, you're encouraging others to get a horse drug through your example."

mathewi And, though he absolutely shouldn't have engaged on this point, it is worth engaging on the fact that describing the drug as a horse de-worm*r while, in particular contexts, might be misleading--it isn't actually technically incorrect....

mathewi And it is worth noting that *even FOX* when covering this understands that there is a specific line and CNN walked right up to it but didn't cross it: the difference between 'Rog*n is taking horse dewormer' & 'taking a drug that is used as horse dewormer'

mathewi No one better than them understands the subtle art of implication... as they do it right there in that first graf... but *also* don't cross that line.
