Tbh I don't get this. If you went out to get a link to a fancy jpeg and you got the link and the cryptographic token saying you got the link and you can resell that link... is "scammed" really the right word?

Is this really a community that got scammed or is it an investment group that figured out a way to sell their assets twice?

I would argue that this group has apparently collectively acquired 2.7m in assets they can sell as is and a way to sell those same assets a 2nd time as if they were new.

Like ok, you're not getting a *highly theoretical* fighting game because the original token seller disappeared, but now you can resell those tokens and also sell the new revenge tokens and... Uhhh... Also still not get the fighting game.

Scammed implies that value was lost... but people are still buying the original NFTs so... Yeah, some dude ghosted your Discord and took 2.7m to go, but everyone can just resell their tokens make their money back so... I guess the only person out is the apparently unpaid artist?

Notably, the article doesn't say if the new tokens, which allow original buyers to sell their jpeg twice, will raise money for the artist so I guess the only person who got scammed is the artist who thought getting paid in crypto was a good idea.

I guess the lesson is: sell your own art as NFTs and don't rely on someone else to do it for you. Or maybe just don't get your art wrapped up in NFTs unless you don't care about it.
