This is just one more insane day in the OZY story. WTF? It smells to me like someone announced they were shutting down the company without actually checking with the appropriate people. That would be crazy... but also par for the course. nytimes/1445033492539232262
-
Also, considering all the reports of how hands on the founders are about everything in Ozy... “I don’t know if that was a mistake or that was intentional” sounds like some real BS.
-
Also, I want to know which advertiser(s) were like 'yeah, we want to keep paying you money'... because while that seems very unlikely... also I can totally see it happening.
-
For better or worse these days media companies are valued by the size and demographics of their audience and now it's out there that as much as 95% of that audience is fake. How do you raise funds or get advertisers after that? axios.com/how-ozy-fell-26c02594-7e08-4e71-80e8-45f142a1f2f0.html?utm_campaign=organic&utm_medium=socialshare&utm_source=twitter

There's an irony in that there's good stuff at Ozy. The website tech is fine, the journalism that's actually written is good. It's the video and audio stuff that's a disaster. It's also the video and audio stuff that has the highest potential to sell and is most tied to Watson...
-
But it's hard to imagine how to go forward with Watson still in charge. It sure seems like a lot of the problems go all the way to the top. Saving the company would have to involve him stepping down right? But then how does it all work?
-
If I were to put on my business ghoul cape I would bet that Ozy is going to get split up. The video stuff that's impossible to extricate Watson from goes to some streaming service to manage and the rest gets packaged up for linkjuice and sold to ad tech. bluechoochoo/1445041327616364546
