There is a Hulu show called Utopia Falls, which I have heard nothing about, which appears to be the result of someone in a pitch meeting going: "What if Hunger Games meets The 100 but also High School Musical" and the boss was like 'can we get snoop dogg tho?' & it got greenlit
-
I cannot lie... it looks like exactly my trash. My body is ready for a show where teens beat the apocalypse through 90s-style rap and... I dunno, was that krumping? youtube.com/watch?v=TV0DQcLV43E
-
yeaaaaaah give me that beginning of show voice over about how the Great Darkness and The End of the Earth and New Babyl (def NOT an ominous name!)
-
oh no is this going to be about how only capitalism can create rap music
-
omg all teens must compete in 'dystopia got talent'
-
oh wow this is instantly canadian sf, I can't even explain it, but I looked up the producer and yup, he's from Stargate
-
I already have so many questions, are people born into reform sector? why are there so many tube grubs? is there nature outside of the nature sector? is every old lady called gran?
-
lol there's a *lot* of 'the socialist state is in charge and creepy' going on here...
-
someone liked Hunger Game's districts, but figured they should call em sectors instead and have less of them. Honestly, good call.
-
very Canadian SF that there's a central sculpture, but they didn't want to buy one so it is *very obviously* random CGI.
-
all the kids have numbers for last names which is just amazing but also like... why?
-
gotta say it is *bold* that they went up front with their being only four sectors and one of them is apparently 'enlightened prison sector' def a bad sign!
-
oh boy, mysterious figure!
-
very friendly cop over in the "reform" sector... oh but hey, someone finally had a negative reaction to the friendly white cop in the multi-ethnic "reform" sector.
-
lol clear mob boss character has hilariously inept sidekick.
-
ok off to the 'dystopia got talent' academy! clearly they are CGI-ing in the statue because it is big and also everywhere.
-
oh we got the rebel who is arbitrarily late in front of the class!
-
they're getting "assessed" now. Def not at all like hunger games. Also... what the heck does Progress sector do?
-
ok we're getting the first performance and there is a lot of lens flare and camera moves and cuts like maybe they could afford professional dancers but not singers because also the ADR is... not well coordinated with what is going on lol
-
I am impressed that the characters have apparently spontaneously improvised a chill song and coordinated lyrics, but apparently the "mentor" was not impressed so hey we've got a judging moment.
-
lol 2 randos and late girl got eliminated in a weakest link moment, but she got a character beat so I assume she's going to be hiding in the walls or something. meanwhile, RIVALRY
-
looking it up and surprised that they didn't get a music video director to do this episode, but it was... ok. Now we've got a mysterious invitation to go Beyond the Wall. Gogogo, we know they're going to go and investigate b/c they're hip teens.
-
wait... how did the obvious criminal he make it from reform sector to the academy with smuggled goods? also... strong start with half the kids having serious parent problems, gotta have parent problems
-
lol snoop dogg going to come soon I think, but breaking here.
-
Snoop is indeed the AI voice of the archive and he is explaining hip hop to the dystopia. Character: "Volume up" SnoopAI: "No doubt"
