        swodinsky Yeah, this is why it gives me such strong 'we're flipping the company' feels from my time at Salon. It looks so much to me like juicing the numbers so the books look nice and tempting because that can blind a buyer to a drop in readership.

      swodinsky Like it's very bad ad tech thinking to solve 'lower impressions' with 'more ad positions' when the real answer is *always* increasing ad quality, bumping UX and SEO up, and attempting to increase in-session conversions...

    swodinsky Like the number one thing I found out doing consulting is nothing makes revenue go up better & more sustainably than increased pageviews-per-session. It drives me crazy ad tech dudes come to publications & can't wrap their brain around the fact that they work for *readers* now.

      swodinsky The publishing business serves two masters, readers and advertisers... but no publisher can prioritize one over the other and expect to find a win. At least not without some serious fraud.
