reconbot I mean, that is indeed the very reason why old IE remained in use for so long! But I dunno, the idea that it is ok to leave these old applications that are in serious use cases like banking going without upgrades isn't really something I'm ok with? ...

reconbot We've seen old systems hit up against new issues because reality has changed and then have terrible trouble upgrading b/c they're in antiquated modes, languages, stuff no one has touched, etc... I don't think it's wild to say actively used apps should undergo regular upgrades?

reconbot I dunno... it's hard to wrap my head around to be honest. I only see the bad here and I see it regularly. Outside of a JS tutorial, I can't remember the last time I saw alert used in production. Generally it has been recommended against for a while now...

reconbot IMO if we can stop thousands, or even hundreds, or even dozens, of people from suffering real, serious, IRL harm by changing a web specification that's a pretty good argument, no?
