        swodinsky This is such a great point because one of the foundational mistakes of ad tech was trying to pretend that ads were not content and that they existed outside of the context of the content they sat alongside.

      swodinsky Like, you read about the creation of the pop up ad and it's very clear that early era ad tech was designed specifically around the concept that no one was paying attention or was supposed to.

    swodinsky The earliest major study in banner blindness that estimated the majority of the population totally ignored standard ad sizes was in ***1997***!

      swodinsky So much of the early design is about scamming buyers that now, even when they're not intending it, the system operates on the assumption that no one is actually seeing the ads.
