      1. The VC model is dependent on investing in companies with the idea that the end user is never the company's customer. Either these startups are selling ads or data, but in either case the person they're serving isn't the user of the app.

      That, or their plan is disrupting industry standards or government regulations in new, inventive, money making ways that well established companies who worry about regulation will never do, which isn't helping end users either. Chronotope/813775440590635008?s=19

    In any case, the point is to abstract the value users can generate from their needs. In this way, users aren't the new oil... a they're the new gold standard, containers of economic value from which markets have abstracted a concept of wealth while no longer directly connecting

      Uber was started because an ahole founder who abused private car drivers was upset labor could potentially punish him by refusing service because of a pattern of bad actions. Uber was always designed to create a marketplace out of control of users or labor. That's the template.
