    eaton irwin Yeah, I think this is a core issue... we live in capitalism & consumption through capitalism is therefore unavoidable. This is why the tool of talking Death of the Author is useful, because even if you don't believe it, we can talk about the author, their work, and how they earn

      eaton irwin In some ways these conversations are separated into pieces: what does your consumption mean under capitalism? What does this specific authors' beliefs mean and how do they impact their work? What are alternative/comparable works that bring this into focus?

        eaton irwin He might not be the right age for it yet, but Lilith's Brood is a good comparative work for Ender's Game (as an example). I think the approach to take is that we don't want to censor reading, but enhance it...

          eaton irwin And to additionally be aware that our choice to purchase or recommend things has an impact because it causes capital to flow to the creator. Even if you don't steal it, even if you buy it, it's worth talking about what this purchase is worth what impact buying a thing has.
