JayCoDon jarroddicker robinberjon I mean if we assume that Google is willing to do *anything* to keep control of user data, regulation and public promises be dammed... then 3p is no more effective a counter than FLoC or anything else no? Google already owns Chrome. They could silently interfere w/ 3p right *now*

JayCoDon jarroddicker robinberjon Look I'm not a huge fan of any of the prosals, but at least there is some level of cryptographic and anonymity-methodology baked in? I don't think we can ever progress if we start on the assumption Google is lying about its intent in regards to use of the systems it is proposing.

JayCoDon jarroddicker robinberjon Google could, of course, build an entire layer of tracking that functions only to its own benefit into Chrome, but that would be as clear a break from their promises & public behavior as the current allegations in regard to AMP ad bid manipulations that can result in consequences

JayCoDon jarroddicker robinberjon I am not particularly inclined to trust Google, now or ever. But I do think the best way to move forward is to assume that they will not be using Chrome invasively beyond what other people can do, and then spend time and effort to verify that at every step going forward.

JayCoDon jarroddicker robinberjon I am as inclined to be conspiratorial about Google as anyone. They have proven a need. But we *have* to move forward for ads vs browser technology in some way. Moving data to be more safely stored & giving users control at browser level seem the direction. JayCoDon/1354090938063347717

JayCoDon jarroddicker robinberjon I actually wrote exactly about this issue when thinking about Chrome's switch around Incognito Mode a little while back - startedwithatweet.substack.com/p/the-main-motivation-for-this-work
