taubeneck acfou swodinsky robinberjon Because the initial design is irrelevant but the design process and development and deployment continues and to continue to design along the same lines knowing what we know about how these system designs produce results now is designing unethically.

taubeneck acfou swodinsky robinberjon If you design something broken and you see it is broken and you keep building on top of it without fixing it then the thing that is broken is now the design. It's broken and it only will be made worse. You can't patch a fundamentally broken system.

taubeneck acfou swodinsky robinberjon We can reject the fundamentals of the current personalized ad targeting systems and still build towards a future with ads and an ad funded internet. But we can't build it without acknowledging that the design of hyper personalized ads is bad, was always bad, and cannot be fixed.

taubeneck acfou swodinsky robinberjon No one is more of a proponent of trying to fix things from the inside than I, otherwise I wouldn't be doing what I do now. But there are some places and some systems that cannot be fixed. They have to be approached externally and torn down before they can be rebuilt.
