      1. Hello, do you report on privacy and ad tech, or are you an advocate for privacy and limited ad tech? Especially if you are reporting on the use of ads to manipulate people via optimized user targeting? The engineers in the W3C's Web Advertising group would like you to talk to us.

There's confusion about what exactly is meant when talking about manipulation via ads and some of the folks in our group have expressed that they're unclear on the exact problem they're being asked to solve. So, I figured I'd use my platform to ask folks to help.

If you would be willing to help explain to a bunch of engineers what exactly the problem is and answer their questions around things like algorithmic redlining, and ad manipulation in things like: themarkup.org/coronavirus/2020/04/23/want-to-find-a-misinformed-public-facebooks-already-done-it and Chronotope/1270500232569278464 let me know via DM.

Or email me. I'll see if I can arrange for a space where you can bring this up and field some engineer questions to help illuminate the issue. Email is Aram (dot) Zucker (dash) Scharff (at) washpost (dot) com. Keybase is 'aramzs'

You can see from my thread what my feelings/thoughts/concept of these issues are, but I am not a reporter or advocate and I suspect more voices, more expert than mine, would be helpful here. Hopefully a few folks can call in.
