                1. The Letter is to Op-Ed/Politics/Literary Journalism what The (Rebooted) Escapist's 'But Actually We Need to Talk About Ethics in Gaming Journalism' piece was to Gaming Journalism

It's easy to think the wrong things are being addressed when the only people's work you read is from a shitty insular circle of people whose work fails to expand beyond a small sliver of any topic and is not informed by anyone else outside of the shitty insular circle.
            1. …in reply to @Chronotope
Like sure it isn't *just* a diversity problem, but also you can't solve it without solving the diversity problem of that shitty insular circle.

One more chapter in my book 'everything journalism is going through right now happened in gaming journalism first'.

Well Actually It's About Ethics In Journalism Round The Fourth.

Allow me to use the past to predict the future:

Since people will realize they are basically arguing against a fantasy position that exists out of the outsized imaginations of some of the very people involved and pull back.
    1. …in reply to @Chronotope
      *some people
    2. …in reply to @Chronotope
Some will use that those pull backs to solidify their position and claim it as further proof. Some of those people will use it as an excuse to further align themselves with the far right movement as 'the only ones willing to give sense a chance'.

The letter will get an editor's comment or formal in publication response. A bunch of the opposing voices from outside the letter ingroup will have the opportunity to speak in places that would never amplify them and then get serious online abuse those places will not help with
        1. …in reply to @Chronotope
The people so concerned with their 'freedom to disagree' will continue to very publicly be disagreeable at the top of publications that they already has the microphone at.
          1. …in reply to @Chronotope
Without any organizational support, the diverse voices brought in to counter embarrassing letter writers will find themselves stressed, burned out and ignored and leave or fade because nothing structural has been fixed and they still have to unfairly struggle to grab the mic.
            1. …in reply to @Chronotope
All the beneficiaries of the previous status quo will grind up the controversy to maintain their space on top and block out new or different voices who dare to criticize them.
              1. …in reply to @Chronotope
One of the signatories will turn out to be a creep or obviously discriminatory or just a real big hypocrite and the status quo holders will be forced to shut up while critics rise to call them out for centering themselves amid real problems that don't enter their stratified air.
                1. …in reply to @Chronotope
We have a big conversation about the need for more diverse voices in the face of the structural inequalities created by the status quo holders holding the status quo.
                  1. …in reply to @Chronotope
The status quo holders rebrand themselves as the underdog opposition, or the sensible centrists, or the fly over listeners or the intellectual dark web and get rightly criticized for centering themselves over real issues.
                    1. …in reply to @Chronotope
The status quo holders center themselves in a fancy letter in a big publication that shows their intellectual underdog movement has all the cards after all, but pretend that it means the opposite.
                      1. …in reply to @Chronotope
Nothing changes. Repeat until the world burns. Minority voices get to be grist for the mill, unprotected and never granted the same tools as the status quo while the status quo holders make money and launder their bad ideas over and over.
                        1. …in reply to @Chronotope
It would be real nice if this time the cycle changes, but I suspect it will not.
                          1. …in reply to @Chronotope
I personally cannot wait for the 'we're just clowning and then you over react so we've proven the left is intolerant of ideas but also our joking racism is cover for actual naz*s' phase of the discourse to arrive and then leave.
