                    1. I'm working through season 2 but boy is it a slog. It's clearly answering the call of "more action" but like maybe they got renewed for multiple seasons? Because it's a lot of stuff happening but the world isn't really meaningfully progressing... Chronotope/1272717810205155329

Like major events occur... but they don't actually seem to impact the world and there's a whole episode for the death of a major character but also oh boy that's the one they made a clip show!

Awkwardly that's the episode where they kept the network promo "things will never be the same on this very special chapter of The Earth Saga" and I got all hyped but it's a clip show where she imagines being on trial in her head and dies for a BS reason.

Also, Xo'or is all over this, acting mischievously and evil and like... it's almost too much, it almost undercuts the main idea. He's not the only one either. I can just imagine some exec going "stretch this out"

And there's not enough Da'an, I get the sense that there were some real actor problems that needed quick solutions. Like contracts gone wrong or something because they set up a bunch of big hooks that don't seem to get pulled on. But some strong character opportunities occur!

Lisa Howard gets some real meaty bits and some solid family drama written in that gives her the opportunity to do some of best acting on the show thus far. And Von Flores gets the right scripts to do some real acting as well. Dude gets to get angry and it's great!

And there are a lot of interesting Revelations that feel like they were meant to be set up with more emphasis but get dropped quickly in unrelated episodes because of the need to action it up taking away the room to meditate on some of these major points.

It is another instance through of how 90s Earth: Final Conflict really is. This is such a clear artifact of network TV plot design, where they need 'this week on Earth... Final Conflict... The true enemy is revealed / the fate of the last Taelon / other dimension lady returns!'

Compare to Fringe, where it's ok to let things sit for a while; or Lost where it's all just setups for the internet to speculate on. 90s TV needed whammys every episode, even if it meant screwing with the over arcing plot or theme. There's the bones of a much better show in there

    90s TV, what a trip.

Also, there's got to be some good back room story behind masterful Star Trek writer D.C. Fontana doing only the second episode of the series. I wonder what happened there. I wish someone had done a documentary just on her before she died last year.

What S2 is giving me right now is strong Ready For A Reboot vibes. It would be so interesting to see a version of this where they took it more contemplative and leaned into the themes more. Like DS9, this is a show before its time. It would be great as like... an HBO series now.

& the themes are even more on point today, looking at how to solve problems with vs without violence, arguments about the nature and methods of resistance, questions about how to combat terrorism and the use of a policing force without oversight. E:FC still has resonance.
