The ecosystem of iTunes continues to baffle me.
-
Did you know that if you set up a podcast feed on feedburner (a service that barely exists) it will let you notify the Yahoo Media Server, a system that no longer exists, at a company that no longer exists, using Media RSS, a spec--once hosted by Yahoo--that no longer exists?
-
Honestly, I was super into the first wave of podcasting and I don't remember Yahoo doing anything? What did they do back in the day that got them so baked into the infrastructure of podcasts? I don't remember them even having a podcast product.
-
Anyway, I found this out when trying to help a friend who was having problems because a major podcasting service switched their HTTPS certificate provider this month and it no longer validates in common tools because weird iTunes stuff.

Some days the open web feels more like the broken web... Mostly because it's filtered through FAANG.
-
Also, I'm always going to call it iTunes because when Apple basically took over the Media RSS spec by default they *stuck their dumb product name in it* and if I'm stuck with it in my code, they're stuck with it on reference. It's only fair.

Also, maybe I whip up a Feedburner replacement on Glitch. Seems like it might be useful.
