It's not *bad* exactly. I mean, it is VERY 90s. Like super 90s. Complete with Very 90s CGI and Very 90s Near Future. My fav example of terrible future tech is when they stop a truck and want to show it's The Future and truck logs are Future Now, and the guy pulls out a Palm Pilot

I gotta assume b/c Majel Barrett knew exactly how to appeal to the thirsty housewives viewership? Also, I love that all the music is sci-fi futuristic by way of Enya. I mean it is on theme... but also so 90s! youtube.com/watch?v=efIVQgAF580

I'm also super fascinated by every choice the production made around the Taelons. Why that design, why the weird skin, why the barely manageable CGI "blush" of transparency? I'm esp interested in why (if any reason exists) they are identified as male and all played by women?

Also, it's Canadian Sci Fi TV so that means all your favs show up for an episode, b/c basically anyone you would go on to see on the SciFi channel original TV shows wanders into an episode. Even Lisa Ryder shows up in season one episode one to get fridged. >.<

I really love that 1st season for being totally unlike anything that would make it to TV today. I've just started S2 & you can feel the Executives in the background going 'action this shit up, drama, faster' because it is Eps. 3 and more has happened than the entire last season.
-
It is 1998 and already slow thoughtful SF is clearly not what TV executives were looking for. Like, oh we were doing this slow meditative piece on the nature of humanity, peace, power and balance? Nope it's time to drop in a mech suit and Blow Shit Up.

The first season of Earth: Final Conflict would never fly today. Even comparing it to Andromeda's first season (whose first two seasons overlapped with E:FC's last two) the difference is HUGE. No crazy stick fighting in E:FC S1.
-
I'm pretty interested to get through it though. At least right now. It's interesting and very very very much an artifact of its time. But yeah some of that Future stuff is something else. Also... so much purple. lol.

Also like... each episode is 45 minutes and I just can't believe so much of this show exists! All I remember is like 5 episodes that were def cut to 30 minutes. No wonder I was so confused watching it in syndication.
-
I just can't believe how much of it there is and how little anyone seems to talk about it or remember. FIVE SEASONS there is 5 seasons of Earth: Final Conflict and each episode is 45 minutes and season were 22 episodes long back then. I can't even find a gif.
-
Even Andromeda got gifs out there! But then again that show is HAM and ham never ages.

Also, you know what's real 90s? Their entire telecommunications network, including space holograms and video chat runs (complete with visible logos all over) on MCI. That must have been some product placement deal.
