The joke is that a lot of immediately-post-9/11 country music is basically indistinguishable from satire.

The South Park dudes made that joke more than once, though they did a shitty job of it because in some circles people sing America fk yeah unironically. But they're not the only ones. 30 Rock did a much more subtle take. Pretty sure I remember the Simpsons took a jab too.

I mean, I have no idea how the actual military folks take the whole "American soldiers are basically Jesus" genre of country music but it doesn't feel like classic gems of quality to me. And I don't seem to remember some great military outcry against Team America?

Anyway, totally unrelated to the inciting incident, here's a great video on the nature of the production of satire entertainment and the fine lines therein, if that's your jam. youtu.be/62cPPSyoQkE

Another fun fact: Am*rican Sold*er by Toby Ke*th failed to beat out his other charting song "I Love This Bar" during its initial release and took basically a decade for its sales to heat up. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Soldier_(song)
