                        1. Trying to accelerate completion of my collection of Fables Deluxe Edition hardcovers. Picked up the first few for my s.o., they're basically the first comic she's very into, w/o realizing they're rapidly going out of print & the paperbacks have different numbers and collections.

Sorta baffled that these don't seem to have gotten the mega omnibus treatment, but it feels like a lot of the Vertigo line (outside of Sandman) was basically dropped off the face of the Earth, especially once DC shut it down.

Which is a total shame. There's some great stuff under that label. I still am sad Effigy never got a chance to finish its run before Vertigo shut down, really was interested in that story.

I'd been taking the project slowly, scouting out local comic stores and picking them up where I could, but obviously it's all online browsing now.

The big post-MCU consolidations of the various DC & Marvel imprints have been weird, but on the other hand its theoretically easier to be an independent now. But medium-sized labels were good filters for discovery too. I dunno where to go for that anymore? Is there a good blog?

It's weird how the delay of comic cons (as irrelevant as it is to the problems of the wider world) has left me aware of how dependent I was on them for discovery of new things to read. And I've not been super excited about the last year or so of any of the major hero books.

As a result, I've been mostly reading Image stuff. I had hoped the shuffling of editorial at DC would give me something, but it's been a weird time where the Arrowverse TV shows have been so much better than anything in print.

It's a weird after-effect of moving most of my comic consumption to the screen with digital, but now reading comics is competing for the same time as any other screen activity, instead of being time I spend reading physical books or Kindle. So I end up judging it against TV.

Also, as someone who is more of a DC reader, it's been a meh time lately because--even though this is heresy as a GL fan--I don't really like Geoff John's work or his impact on the whole universe's direction. He's just not my jam.

I was hoping the reboot of Wildstorm (I'm liking it) would really pick up and go but, for whatever reason, it doesn't seem to have gotten picked up or invested in like it was as its own imprint. This doesn't seem like a universe relaunch so much as a brief side project.

The Marvel Ultimate books had their problems as a line, but I still feel like they had a particular energy that I'm not feeling lately for whatever reason, but perhaps I'm just not tuned in enough.

I dunno, recommend me some new comics is what I'm saying.
