Banner blindness is real. It has a big impact. When I do one of my presentations on ad tech I use a test for it on my audience and no one has ever passed. The majority are banner blind. A static banner image of traditional size and position is basically useless.

Modifying your theme or template sounds like a lot of work, but it is worth it. While you work on that, use some different looking ads if you're building ads, change it up from traditional size, use movement, do something different.

I dunno. Maybe I'll build a script generator publishers can use to put Guardian-like messages in their sites by just copy pasting a script tag into the head of their site? Would that be useful? Reach out to me if you could use this and if I get even one yes I'll pop it up.

I feel like even copy pasting requests to the bottom of every article would be more useful, if you really have no tech resources.
