    jhrubin The idea that attendance in elementary school should matter at the same level at college is flawed. They are not the same students, they do not have the same responsibilities, they do not even think the same. Why would the same approach be required at K as it is at adulthood?

      jhrubin The praxis of attendance is fundamentally different for children than it is for college-age adults who, by definition, are at a point where they can teach themselves using materials at hand and also have different responsibilities...

        jhrubin To treat it the same requires justification on your part, not an assumption of default. You don't get to pretend attendance is the primary teaching concern at 19 yo that it is at 5 yo. That's just lazy. And it disrespects your students who live lives far more complex than 5yos.
