swodinsky antoniogm I try to be loud :P, especially because I don't think anything is solved hiding in the dark. I'm always glad to talk about ad tech stuff to people and I never cease to be surprised at how little people know, even in positions where they should!

swodinsky antoniogm Even industry people tend to be head-down in their own corners and can't talk to even the other parts of the industry that connect to their products. And then there's the purposeful obfuscation! So much bs in ad tech.

swodinsky antoniogm Imo, I think journalism is where we try to explain how this mess works, but that requires the industry to actually talk about what it does. It doesn't though.

swodinsky antoniogm And ad tech industry people mostly won't because most are so unsure if what they are doing actually works that they worry they'll be revealed to be the emperor with no clothes when the other guy isn't and suddenly their company will be gone *poof*.

swodinsky antoniogm That said it isn't like we require the level of tracking we have now to accomplish marketing goals, it's too much and even if you don't agree that there is an ethical issue, much of the tech has become slow, data heavy, and bad for consumers in a technical level as well.

swodinsky antoniogm I think that it isn't crazy to say that advertising shouldn't be able to resolve down to the level of single individuals to be successful. And arguing to pull away from that functionality is valid.

swodinsky antoniogm I don't mind reporting like this tbh, not everyone will face the consequences of detailed ad tracking in their lives, but none of the potential consequences for those who might see its ill effects are worth, as you say, a CPM of a few cents.
