We're still in a Scorsese news cycle somehow so: if you can't make art within the confines of the commercial appetites you depend on to buy tickets then, & I mean this w/all sincerity, come out as a socialist, decry capitalism, & put your money towards the improvement of society
-
I mean look at his films! He's so close! Just start campaigning for Bernie already! This isn't sarcasm at all or a joke.
-
Just say you want a UBI so people can make art films, that's it and you'll be all the way there.
-
Personally I think art can indeed exist under capitalism, but then I don't get to complain about people not buying tickets to see my art in movie theaters, I have to work with, and perhaps occasionally subvert, the system.
-
It takes a different and difficult approach, but not an impossible one. But these are both perfectly legit points of view!

Everything is political, folks.

(also, the current situation is bad, ultra accumulation of capital at the top is bad capitalism, we've created a system that gives companies welfare--embodied in the phrase Too Big To Fail, tax billionaires, etc...)
